The Leeds-based indie supergroup live up to their name. Menace Beach release Lowtalker, a five track sample of surf-pop meets slacker-rock. The EP contains hints of psychedelia, especially in “Fortune Teller”. This track kicks off the record with a laid-back, dense instrumentation that remains constant throughout the EP. Reminiscent of the early sounds of Smashing Pumpkins, “Honolulu” has a catchy, carefree chorus mixed with a strong baseline. Lowtalker has the windows down, speakers up kind of feel. No matter where or when you listen to it, the record brings a sense of summer and relaxation – very fitting for a band with the word “Beach” in their name. -Kristen Humphries
