Hey West Chester, meet DJ of the Week, Lauren Hein

Hey West Chester, meet DJ of the Week, Lauren Heine! Lauren is a junior Ecology major with a chemistry minor. She has always had a passion for music and love for playing guitar, cello, and some piano. Over the summer, she started learning to play the saxophone. Being a part of WCUR has given Lauren a chance to share the music she loves and get creative with making weekly playlists for her shows.

Lauren describes her show as so, "I have a different theme each week and play a variety of genres, including rock, alternative, indie, and R&B. I like to tell fun facts about the music and artists I feature and sometimes feature special guests!"

An old soul since birth and young only by circumstance, Phoebe Collins has probably spent more time knitting and listening to punk rock than most. She lives, works, and makes music in New Jersey. An artist by both choice and genetics, Phoebe’s portfolio includes sound, image, text, and performance.

Her latest single- a cover of the Buggles’ “Video Killed a Radio Star” - is the result of a collaboration with WCUR in celebration of our station’s 25th anniversary coming soon. Her production styles combined dark synths and drum machines with textured vocal layering to put a goth twist on a new-wave classic.

We will look deep into the meanings behind her songs and the lyrics as well as chill out to her songs as we go era by era and track list by track list. HAPPY MUSIC REC MONDAY!! This week’s recommendation is Noah Kahan's album, “Stick Season.” Brought to you by WCUR DJ, Mariana Leo!

Mariana says this about the album, “My sister got me into Noah Kahan since she loves him. This is one of her favorite songs and now one of mine. I really like the beat and pace of the song. I like slower songs and his vocals in this are amazing. I love the New England area and this song reminds me of the long car rides up to that area. As we get into the colder months, this sound fits that vibe as well.”

Hey West Chester, meet DJ of the Week, Emily Miller! Emily is a junior in Computer Science who loves reading, teaching, and (of course) music. In their free time they love to catch up on new TV shows and read through any new books they can get their hands on.

Emily describes their show as so, "'Crank that Music Boy!' is an eclectic mix of everything from indie folk music to the likes of Beyoncé and The Smiths. I love exposing people to new genres and artists, so you can expect some niche tunes!"

They started ANT & ANG about a year ago by starting to write music together. Before they knew it, they put out their first E.P. in February of this year.

Hey West Chester, meet DJ of the Week, Sofia Vizzarri! Sofia is an MDC major who is hoping to work in Public Relations in the future. She spends a lot of her free time going to concerts, hanging out with friends or listening to music.

Sofia describes her show as so, "My show is a little bit of everything, I have a very eclectic music taste. I like to play a lot of different genres on the show such as pop, classic rock, indie, alternative rock. Honestly anything I'm really feeling at the moment. I like to do a lot of theme shows dedicated to different genres if I feel I want the show to be a little bit more fun that day. I plan on doing a lot of those. There is a lot of different stuff on the show so I hope audience members will discover a song or band that they like from the show."

When asked to describe his show, Gaven said, "Da kickback is a chill show with great positive vibes. I have guests on like friends and sometimes I interview wcu athletes. The style of music I play is rap music, R&B old school rap music and old school R&B. Oh and I talk a little sports . To some it all up Da Kickback is a show you turn on after a long stressful day and relax and listen to music."
